Poetry - An insight into my mind

As Long as You are Happy

Inspired by conversations in a canal boat with my parents after moving through difficult times.

How are you?

Good?

Oh, Not Good?

Oh Dear.

What can I do?

What can we do? To ease the pain

From your desperately exhausted, ADHD brain.
We would give anything

For you

For them

For whoever you choose

As long as you are happy

We would welcome the news.

You have potential

We won’t deny

Inhibit

Interfere

As long as you are happy

You don’t even need to be near.

A mother’s telepathy

Is a formidable force

When you’re not ok

There is no choice

As long as you are happy

You will hear it first in my voice

A Fathers Champion
Has no match
Unconditional support
Never wavering
There need be no understanding
As long as your are happy
We back you and we are still standing.

You’re our son
Our sun
Our moon
And our stars
As long as you’re happy
Fuck it. Book a one-way ticket to Mars.

As good as I Thought She Was

A poem citing the dangers of idealising a partner, whilst glossing over their harmful actions.

You

The reality
The in-person
The tangible
You will never be as good as I thought she was

But you are here
You’re near
You care for me
You stayed
You will never be as good as I thought she was

When you make fantasy a reality
That’s a dangerous game
Is it a game?
Or just a life?
You will never be as good as I thought she was

Living out your days
When the light slowly dies

How did we get here?

I am curious to know

Do I still have somewhere to go?

You will never be as good as I thought she was

But the light still embers

It’s dim, but remains

I can leave

Then you must

You will never be as good as I thought she was

The walls must come down

The illusion shatters

It will be hard mate

But, you must live in actuality

You will never be as good as I thought she was

Choice

Is it the right one?

What if I make the wrong one?

It is irrelevant which way you go

Just as long as the choice was your own

A poem about difficult decisions

Cool Girl in the Café

Cool girl

Coffee shop

Flat White

Attraction I am sure

Style

Piercings

Tattoos

I want to know more

Electrifying Aura

Strong identity

Deep belief

I need to know more

Safety

Conscientious

Connection

This is different from before

Returning

Same place

Different tone

Confusion is what is in store

Myself, as I am

Is far from minimal

With this person

Completely Secure

You deserve the connection

We both do too

The future is uncertain

But know that I adore you
